  • What is the average lifespan of an HVAC system?

An HVAC system should last at least 10 to 15 years with proper maintenance.

  • How often should I have my HVAC system serviced?

You should have your HVAC system services at least once a year. If you have heating and cooling, you can have your system serviced twice per year: heating in the fall and cooling in the spring.

  • How do I know if my HVAC system needs repairs or a replacement?

We have to come out and see for ourselves to properly differentiate if you need a repair or replacement. If we cannot repair your system, we will not charge a diagnostic fee.

  • How often should I change my filter?

If your filter size is 1 inch thick, we recommend every 3 months. If your filter size is 4 inches thick, we recommend every 6 months.

  • How long will my HVAC system last?

Your system should last 15-20 years, and regular maintenance is required to ensure it is clean and has the standard amount of refrigerant or coolant.

  • How often should I do maintenance on my HVAC system?

The manufacturer recommends that you have maintenance on your system every year.

  • If I install an outdoor unit, do I need to also replace my indoor unit?

If you add an outdoor unit, you may not need to replace your indoor unit if it still works well and matches the new unit's efficiency level.

  • Should I cover my outdoor unit in the fall and winter?

In general, you don’t have to cover your system because the system is designed to sit in all types of weather. With annual maintenance, it will clean out any debris that may enter the system. If you want to cover your outdoor unit, we recommend that you disconnect the unit from the outdoor breaker, so you do not use the system with the cover on.

  • What causes AC units to freeze up?

Several factors can cause an AC unit to freeze up. Here are some common reasons:

    • Dirty Air Filter: A clogged or dirty air filter restricts airflow, preventing warm air from reaching the evaporator coil. This can cause the coil to freeze as the cold air accumulates.
    • Low Refrigerant Levels: If the refrigerant level is too low due to a leak, the evaporator coil’s temperature can drop too much, causing condensation to freeze on the coils.
    • Thermostat Set Too Low: Setting the thermostat to an excessively low temperature, especially during cooler weather, can cause the system to overwork and freeze up.
    • Expansion Valve Issues: A malfunction or clog in the expansion valve, which controls the refrigerant flow, can disrupt the system’s pressure balance, leading to freezing.
    • Blocked or Dirty Evaporator Coil: Dust and dirt on the evaporator coil can insulate it from warm air, causing condensation to freeze instead of evaporating.
    • Blower Fan Problems: If the blower fan is not working properly, it can’t circulate air through the system, causing cold air to remain in the coil area and freeze it.
    • Clogged Condensate Drain Line: A blockage in the condensate drain line can prevent proper water drainage, leading to excess moisture buildup and freezing.

Regular maintenance, including changing air filters and cleaning the evaporator coils, can help prevent these issues. If the freezing continues, it’s best to consult an HVAC professional to diagnose the problem.

  • Why are my ducts making a popping sound when the furnace starts or stops?

You most likely have a dirty filter that needs to be changed, or you may have too many of your air vents that are closed.

  • What can I do about indoor air quality?

There are products we can install to help with air quality in your home. For example, UV light units, special air filters, and electronic air cleaners.

  • How do I find out if my unit is under warranty?

Go to the manufacturer's website and enter the serial number to check on the warranty information.

  • What’s the best way to extend the life of my unit?

Annual maintenance is the key to making sure your HVAC system works as efficiently as possible.
